One surprise: Weir has decided not to go with Messier as his top pick, even though he is the 1-2 morning-line favorite. A son of 2002 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker, Messier started his career with a second place finish in June. Since then he has won back-to-back races by a combined 10 lengths.
