What to Know
The Penn State Nittany Lions have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the #16 Ohio State Buckeyes and are hoping to record their first win since Jan. 18 of 2020. Penn State and the Buckeyes will face off in a Big Ten battle at noon ET on Sunday at Value City Arena. Penn State should still be riding high after a victory, while OSU will be looking to get back in the win column.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Penn State proved too difficult a challenge. Penn State captured a comfortable 66-49 victory. Guard Sam Sessoms and forward John Harrar were among the main playmakers for the Nittany Lions as the former had 17 points and six assists and the latter had 16 points along with six boards.
Meanwhile, the Buckeyes came up short against the Wisconsin Badgers on Thursday, falling 78-68. Guard Jamari Wheeler wasn’t much of a difference maker for OSU; Wheeler finished with 11 points on 5-for-12 shooting in his 29 minutes on the court.
Penn State is now 8-6 while OSU sits at 10-4. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Penn State is stumbling into the game with the 355th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 9.4 on average. The Buckeyes have had an even harder time: they are 18th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 10.7 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
