MLB first-quarter grades: Mets, Yankees, Padres get an ‘A’ through 40 games; Mariners, Reds have failing marks

Major League Baseball is now more than a quarter of the way through the regular season, with most teams playing at least their 40th contest over the weekend. We’ve chosen to honor the occasion the only way we know how: by passing judgment on every team’s season to date.

Below, you’ll find all 30 teams’ seasons summed up in a grade. We’ll note that these grades are subjective, and that they hinge in large part on preseason expectations. There are some circumstances, however, where the grade might deviate due to underlying or otherwise non-obvious reasons.
