The Avs defeated the Tampa Bay Lighting 2-1 in Game 6 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final on Sunday, winning their first Stanley Cup since 2001 and just their third championship in the team’s history. Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won the Conn Smythe award for Stanley Cup Final MVP. The University of Massachusetts product is just the third defenseman aged 23 or younger to win the award and the first blueliner to win it since Tampa’s Victor Hedman was series MVP for the Lightning’s 2020 Stanley Cup-winning team. Makar ended the playoffs with 29 points (8 goals, 21 assists) and a plus-7 rating, and recorded seven points through six game in the Final thanks to three multi-point performances.
