Army vs. Navy odds, line: 2023 college football picks, America’s Game predictions from expert on 14-8 run

Tightly contested games have been the norm whenever the Navy Midshipmen and Army Black Knights collide, and another could take place when the teams meet Saturday in America’s Game 2023. Seven of the last nine matchups have been decided by fewer than eight points, including last year’s 20-17 double-overtime victory by Army. The Black Knights (5-6) will take sole possession of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy with a win in the 124th edition of the rivalry, but a triumph by the Midshipmen (5-6) will force Navy, Army and Air Force to share the prize, with the Falcons retaining the trophy.

Kickoff at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. is set for 3 p.m. ET. The Black Knights are 2.5-point favorites in the latest Navy vs. Army odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 28. Army is the -145 favorite (risk $145 to win $100) on the money line. Before making any Navy vs. Army picks or college football predictions, you need to see what SportsLine’s Emory Hunt has to say.

Saturday’s game can be seen live on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+ with the must-have Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan.

Hunt is the founder and CEO of Football Gameplan, which has been supplying analysis of all levels of football since 2007, and a former running back at Louisiana-Lafayette. He knows the game from a player’s perspective. In addition, Hunt has gone an amazing 14-8-1 on his last 23 college football picks involving Navy, returning more than $500 for $100 bettors. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, Hunt has set his sights on Army vs. Navy and just locked in its picks and CFB predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see Hunt’s picks. Here are several college football odds and betting lines for Navy vs. Army:

Why Army can cover

The Black Knights have played well defensively during their winning streak, allowing an average of 12.7 points. The club nearly kept Coastal Carolina off the scoreboard in the second half of their 28-21 victory on Nov. 18, giving up a touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Army racked up 365 yards on the ground in the triumph and rank 10th in the nation in rushing with an average of 208.3 per game.

Army’s ground attack is led by Bryson Daily, who has run for 817 yards and seven touchdowns. The junior quarterback has reached triple digits in rushing yards twice this season and surpassed 80 for the fifth time by gaining 94 in the win against Coastal Carolina. Senior running back Tyson Riley made the most of his first opportunity to carry the ball since the season opener, rushing 12 times for 112 yards and a touchdown in the triumph over the Chanticleers. See who to back at SportsLine

Why Navy can cover

The Midshipmen are coming off a 59-14 loss at SMU, but they were stellar defensively in their previous two contests. After routing UAB 31-6, Navy defeated East Carolina 10-0 to join Penn State as the only FBS teams to record three shutouts this season. It’s certainly possible the Midshipmen could post another as Army was blanked in back-to-back games in October and Navy’s defense has not allowed a touchdown four times this campaign.

Navy is third in the nation in red-zone defense, permitting opponents to score only 71% of the time, and is tied with California for first in the country with 14 fumble recoveries. Offensively, the Midshipmen rank 14th nationally in rushing with an average of 200.5 yards per contest. The ground attack is led by sophomore fullback Alex Tecza, who has carried 117 times for 724 yards and five touchdowns while posting a pair of 100-yard performances. Meanwhile, freshman quarterback Braxton Woodson rushed for 104 yards and a TD in the setback against SMU last time out. See who to back at SportsLine
