2024 College football transfer portal updates: NCAA team news, predictions from 247Sports insiders

2024 College football transfer portal updates: NCAA team news, predictions from 247Sports insiders

The college football spring transfer period opened on April 16, giving teams one more chance to fill needs on their roster. It is also the last chance for players to enter the college football transfer portal before the season starts. Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada joined the mix when the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback from the 2023 class entered the college football transfer portal. The tall, athletic passer completed just 54% of his passes for 485 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions during his freshman season with the Sun Devils, but is a young quarterback with natural tools who can still develop.

Rashada is considered one of the top players in the NCAA football portal right now, especially since there are not many players at his position leaving their current school. However, he is not as coveted as someone like offensive lineman Jason Zandamela, the second-highest ranked uncommitted player in the 247Sports college football transfer portal rankings. Top 2024 spring transfer portal storylines

One key player in the spring transfer portal is Oregon State running back Damien Martinez. The former three-star recruit has improved his stock during his time with the Beavers. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2022 as a true freshman after rushing for 100-plus yards in six straight games.

Martinez followed that up with 1,185 rushing yards as a sophomore, finishing in the top 12 among Power 5 teams in yards after contact, missed tackles forced and runs of 15-plus yards. He has earned All-Conference honors in two seasons with Oregon State, and he has an elite blend of size, speed and toughness. Martinez is no longer an overlooked player, with plenty of teams trying to snag him from the transfer portal. Join 247Sports to see the latest updates here.

Another key player in the spring portal is Colorado cornerback Cormani McClain. He was the biggest name to enter the portal on Tuesday who had not already been reported as an expected entrant. McClain was a five-star recruit in last year’s class and started four games for the Buffaloes last season.

The No. 1 cornerback recruit in the 2023 class flipped to Colorado after he was initially committed to play for Miami. He recorded 13 tackles and two pass breakups across nine games last season, but he also received public criticism from Sanders, who said McClain was responsible for not getting himself on the field early in the year. McClain ranks third among all uncommitted players in the college football transfer portal with a four-star grade (94) from 247Sports.
