Georgia wide receiver Rara Thomas was arrested Friday morning on a felony charge of cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of battery, according to Athens-Clarke County jail records. Thomas, who was booked at 3:20 a.m., has yet to be released.

This is Thomas’ second arrest on similar charges. He was detained in January 2023 on a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of family violence. The charges were later dismissed in a deal between prosecutors and Thomas’ attorney.

A four-star prospect in the 2023 transfer portal, Thomas transferred to Georgia after two years at Mississippi State. He played in 11 games in his first season with the program and logged 23 catches for 383 yards and one touchdown.

Despite increased depth at the wide receiver position, Thomas was expected to be a key piece for the Bulldogs’ offense in 2024. He was on 247Sports’ two-deep projection for Georgia following spring practice — just behind Miami transfer Colbie Young — at one of the outside receiver spots.

A former three-star prospect out of Eufaula, Alabama, Thomas had 62 catches for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons at Mississippi State prior to leaving for Georgia.
