Team USA 3×3 Basketball: Men’s squad fails to advance past pool play at 2024 Paris Olympics

Men’s basketball 3×3 competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics concluded Monday with Netherlands knocking off France 18-17 in overtime to win the gold medal.

Netherlands guard Worthy de Jong sent the game to overtime with a 1-point shot with under a second remaining and later knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to seal the win. Overtime rules in 3×3 competition state that the team that scores two points in overtime wins first.

de Long scored a game-high seven points, while Jan Driessen added six for Netherlands. Despite shooting 2 of 12 from 2-point range, Netherlands finished 11 of 15 (73%) from shots inside the arc to shock the host country.

Earlier in the day, Lithuania defeated Latvia 21-18 to win the bronze. Šarūnas Vingelis scored a team-high nine points to help Lithuania win their first medal in men’s 3×3 competition.

The United States’ 3×3 men’s basketball team was eliminated from Olympics competition before the weekend with a 21-6 loss to the gold medal winner. Team USA played most of the competition without former Naismith College Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette due to a groin injury.
