Top Michigan Wolverines practice storylines

The Michigan football quarterback battle has been one of the more intriguing ones in college football this fall. Michigan has a pair of steady hands in Jack Tuttle and Davis Warren, but much of the buzz surrounds sophomore quarterback Alex Orji. True freshman Jadyn Davis has also reportedly had a strong camp.

Orji, however, appears to bring the most upside and Michigan’s 2024 outlook could depend on his development as a passer. Moore has not named any starter, but the staff at TMI believes there’s a great chance he’ll be leading the Wolverines this fall. “As a reported student of the game who is also blessed with physical gifts … Orji has seized the opportunity in fall camp,” Shaw said. Get more updates on the Michigan QB at The Michigan Insider.

Michigan fans are also eager to see the new-look defense under Martindale. The long-time NFL assistant has ties to the Harbaugh family after working with John Harbaugh and the Ravens from 2012-21. Now he takes over for Jesse Minter, who followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers.

One of the foundations of this unit will be the interior defensive line. Michigan has arguably the best defensive tackle duo in the country in Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant and Martindale is looking to keep them on the field more after the 2023 defense featured a big rotation. “I’ve been working on my conditioning, going more plays in a row,” Grant told TMI. “Coach Wink has been stressing that with me and Mason because we have bigger and more competition early.” Find out more about Sherrone Moore’s new offense at The Michigan Insider
