College football odds, picks, predictions for Week 2, 2024: Proven model backs Oklahoma in best bets

College football odds, picks, predictions for Week 2, 2024: Proven model backs Oklahoma in best bets

No. 16 Oklahoma State opened the season with a 44-20 win over South Dakota State, covering the spread as a 13-point favorite. The Cowboys will try to back up that performance when they host Arkansas during the Week 2 college football schedule. They are 7.5-point favorites in the Week 2 college football odds, even though Arkansas is coming off a 70-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff for its biggest win since 1928. Several other SEC opponents have tricky matchups in Week 2, including No. 14 Tennessee (-7.5) against No. 24 NC State in Charlotte.

The biggest game nationally features No. 10 Michigan (+7.5) vs. No. 3 Texas in a noon ET kickoff on Saturday. Michigan is the defending national champion, but Texas has taken more action in early Week 2 college football bets. Before locking in any college football picks for Week 2 of the 2024 season, be sure to see the latest college football predictions from SportsLine’s proven model.

Top college football predictions for Week 2

One of the college football picks the model is high on during Week 2: South Carolina (+10) covers against Kentucky at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Many bettors are looking to fade the Gamecocks following their narrow win over Old Dominion, but the model has identified value following the early line movement. South Carolina freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers made his debut last week, completing 10 of 23 passes for 114 yards.

However, it was a fairly conservative gameplan from Shane Beamer, and Sellers flashed his potential with 68 rushing yards and a game-winning touchdown. The Gamecocks also have a reliable running back in Arkansas transfer Raheim Sanders, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown against Old Dominion. Kentucky was not able to get a full Week 1 game under its belt due to weather, so the model has South Carolina covering the spread in nearly 60% of simulations. See the rest of its Week 2 college football picks here.

Another prediction: No. 15 Oklahoma (-29) easily covers the huge spread against Houston in a 7:45 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday. The Sooners are coming off an impressive season opener, as they rolled to a 51-3 win over Temple as 42.5-point favorites. Sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold threw for 141 yards and four touchdowns before getting to rest down the stretch of that game.

Oklahoma rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt. Meanwhile, Houston’s offense managed just seven points in a 20-point loss to UNLV in Willie Fritz’s first game as head coach. The model does not expect Houston to look any better this week, as Oklahoma is covering the large spread in over 60% of simulations. See picks for every other game in Week 2 here.
