Georgia football offseason news: Transfer portal, roster updates, recruiting, staff changes from SEC insiders

The Georgia football team will turn its attention to the 2025 college football season after the Bulldogs were bounced from the College Football Playoff by Notre Dame. They were without starting quarterback Carson Beck (elbow), who is headed to the NFL and will not be part of the 2025 Georgia football roster. Sophomore Gunner Stockton went 20-of-32 for 234 yards and one touchdown as Beck’s replacement and is expected to be the starter in Athens next season. There are plenty of question marks at other positions on the roster, which is where the college football transfer portal could come into play.

Ninth-year head coach Kirby Smart will spend the next few months trying to make sure his program doesn’t fall from the top of the sport. The Bulldogs have already won two national championships under Smart, but which roster changes can help lead to a third title? Georgia football roster news

Georgia’s wide receivers struggled tremendously this season with dropped passes, so finding more reliable targets will be a priority for the coaching staff. Five-star wide receiver Talyn Taylor is one of the top recruits in college football, and he could immediately provide a spark offensively. Taylor averaged more than 20 yards per reception during his senior season of high school, and he is the only incoming five-star recruit for Georgia on offense.

The Bulldogs are reportedly in the mix for USC transfer wideout Zachariah Branch, who is one of the best players remaining in the winter portal. Branch had 47 receptions for 503 yards and one touchdown this season, including a 102-yard performance at Washington in November. His brother, Zion Branch, was a safety at USC and is also in the portal.

Georgia is coming off its worst statistical rushing season of the Smart era, as Florida transfer running back Trevor Etienne dealt with injuries and never fully panned out. The Bulldogs will await his decision regarding another year in Athens, while guard Tate Ratledge and second-leading receiver Dominic Lovett are graduating. Smart will be trying to reload at those positions, and the transfer portal will play a key role. Get more Georgia football roster updates at Dawgs247.
