The rosters are set ahead of the All-Star Game on Sunday night, but LeBron James will miss the game with injury
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is here. The event, taking place Sunday night at the Warriors‘ Chase Center in San Francisco, will feature a new format this year with three teams of NBA All-Stars, plus Team C (the winners of Friday’s Rising Star Challenge) in a four-team mini tournament. The three teams of All-Stars were drafted by TNT’s Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith, and they all have their own unique theme.
The format is new, but the rosters feature plenty of familiar names. Stephen Curry will be playing in his 11th All-Star Game and will be doing so in front of his home fans in San Francisco. Veteran stars Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, Jalen Brunson and Jayson Tatum will all be on the court Sunday as well.
But the biggest name in the sport will not be on the court. LeBron James will sit out on Sunday night due to “foot and ankle discomfort,” he announced. The 40-year-old Lakers star was set to be part of Shaq’s team. LeBron has been voted to 21 straight All-Star Games, and this will be the first one without him on the court since 2004.
There are some newcomers, too. Chief among them is Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama, who will be making his first All-Star Game appearance. Wembanyama has averaged 24.4 points, 11 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game — all averages increased from his Rookie of the Year campaign last season. Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, Tyler Herro and Alperen Sengun are also among first-time All-Stars in 2025.
Barkley’s team is comprised of international stars, with Wembanyama teaming up with Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Karl-Anthony Towns and more. O’Neal drafted the “OGs.” Shaq’s squad has Curry, Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden and more. Smith’s team is made up of younger All-Stars, like Edwards, Mobley and Jaren Jackson Jr. Candace Parker will coach the Rising Stars squad, which is led by Spurs rookie Stephon Castle. It’s been a busy weekend for Castle, who won Rising Stars MVP on Friday night and finished second to Mac McClung in the Dunk Contest on Saturday night.
