Coastal Carolina vs. Kansas odds, line: 2021 college football picks, predictions from model on 63-45 run

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET from Brooks Stadium. Coastal Carolina (1-0) started its historic 11-win season last year with a 38-23 win at Kansas, and also won 12-7 at Kansas in 2019. Why Coastal Carolina can cover

In Week 1, the Chanticleers appeared to pick up where they left off last season as they cruised to a 52-14 victory over FCS opponent The Citadel. Their offense was versatile and highly productive as they scored touchdowns on six of their first seven drives to put the game out of reach early, allowing the second half to become a showcase for their reserves.

Sophomore quarterback Grayson McCall logged a nearly flawless 2021 debut, going 16-of-19 for 262 yards and a touchdown. He threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards on 11 carries and adding two more scores in last season’s victory at Kansas. The Coastal Carolina defense also proved to be formidable, limiting The Citadel to 237 total yards last week.

Why Kansas can cover

The Jayhawks arrive with some measure of relief and optimism following last week’s win, the program’s first since beating Texas Tech 37-34 in October 2019. Former coach Les Miles, who won a national title at LSU, was fired in March amid a slew of off-field troubles and in the wake of an 0-9 season on the field.

However, the program landed one of the game’s hottest coaching prospects in Leipold, who turned a long-dormant Buffalo program into a perennial winner. He went 37-33 in six seasons and led the Bulls to two MAC title games. He went 25-10 over his last three seasons after guiding the program through some growing pains. Kansas fans who waited nearly two years in between victories stormed the field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium following the win over an FCS-level opponent.
