Friday at the 2022 Masters delivered a magical moment at the par-3 16th hole as Stewart Cink, with his son on the bag, delivered the tournament’s first hole-in-one in dramatic fashion. Cink, 48, landed his approach on the high side of the green and let the slope do the work with his ball trickling nearly halfway across the surface before cinking sinking right in the cup.
Cink and his son, Reagan, shared an emotional moment as soon as his ball disappeared beneath the pin. Reagan dropped the elder Cink’s bag right where he was and raced to embrace his father before sharing some high-fives as well to celebrate. Even cooler: dad’s ace came on Reagan’s birthday. A close look at the video shows the elder Cink mouth, “Happy birthday,” to his son.
Incredibly, it was the second career hole-in-one for Cink at the par-3 16th hole at Augusta National. As Justin Ray of Twenty First Group noted, it gave Cink a hole-in-one in four different decades as a pro: 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.
Given the swirling winds and high scores at the Masters on Friday, the ace from Cink was one of the few truly jovial moments on a course that has seen a lot of solemn play from frustrated golfers.
