From Archie to his sons, Peyton and Eli, the Manning family has built itself into a legitimate quarterback dynasty. Arch Manning — Archie’s grandson and the nephew of Peyton and Eli — is next up, and the high schooler possesses something his predecessors never had: wheels.
In a 49-21 blowout of Metairie Park Day on Friday, Manning exhibited speed, elusiveness and tackle-breaking power on both designed runs and scrambles for Isidore Newman (La.). Manning also showed some of the attributes responsible for his uncles’ and grandfather’s rousing success, from his perfectly-lofted go balls to his toughness in throwing a touchdown strike while a defender speared him in the chest. The New Orleans native Manning accounted for five touchdowns overall.
Manning is 247sports composite’s top-ranked player in the class of 2023 and owns offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Ole Miss. Ole Miss has a familial recruiting advantage over those other programs, as Archie, Eli and Cooper — Arch’s father and a former Rebels receiver — all spent their collegiate years in Oxford. Peyton became the lone Manning to stray from the Ole Miss path by attending Tennessee.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has made his adoration of Manning abundantly clear, ensuring his would-be QB1 in Oxford is his one and only Instagram follow.
Kiffin will have significant competition in luring Manning. The 6-4 passer will visit the Rebels on Oct. 23, but also planned visits with Alabama on Oct. 2, Texas on Oct. 16 and Clemson on Oct. 30. Manning’s most recent visit was with Georgia last weekend, and 247sports’ Steve Wiltfong thinks the Dawgs and coach Kirby Smart left quite an impression.
“He’s got a fun fall on tap,” 247sport’s Steve Wiltfong said, “but Georgia has certainly put their best foot forward in this recruitment and they have a great chance.”
