Who’s Playing
Connecticut @ Vanderbilt
Current Records: Connecticut 0-5; Vanderbilt 1-3
What to Know
The Vanderbilt Commodores will play host again and welcome the Connecticut Huskies to Vanderbilt Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Commodores are out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home.
The day started off rough for Vanderbilt last week, and it ended that way, too. They were dealt a punishing 62 to nothing defeat at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs. Vanderbilt was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 38 to nothing.
Meanwhile, UConn scored first but ultimately less than the Wyoming Cowboys in their game last week. UConn fell just short of Wyoming by a score of 24-22. QB Tyler Phommachanh wasn’t much of a difference maker for the Huskies; Phommachanh threw one interception with only 170 yards passing.
Special teams collected ten points for UConn. K Joe McFadden delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
The Commodores are the favorite in this one, with an expected 14.5-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past two games, so buyers beware.
The losses put Vanderbilt at 1-3 and UConn at 0-5. Two defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Vanderbilt is 231st worst in the nation in touchdowns allowed, with 17 on the season. UConn has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the contest with the 249th most touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 26 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
