There will be a Game 5 in the Stanley Cup Final. The Edmonton Oilers finally got on the board by blasting the Florida Panthers, 8-1, in Game 4.
Facing elimination at home, the Oilers came out firing in Game 4. Their offense had been held in check by the Panthers for most of the series, but it broke out in a big way on Saturday night. Connor McDavid came up with a goal and three assists, which helped him break Wayne Gretzky’s record for most assists in a single postseason with 32.
Leon Draisaitl added a pair of assists, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his first goal of the series and Zach Hyman finally hit the stat sheet with two helpers of his own. It was a party at Rogers Place, and everyone in blue and orange was invited.
This was really the first time in the Stanley Cup Final that Sergei Bobrovsky looked human, and that might be an understatement. He was pulled from the game after allowing five goals on just 16 shots. Anthony Stolarz replace him and stopped just 16 of the 19 he faced.
The Panthers’ defense was uncharacteristically porous in Game 4, and they will have to tighten the screws on Tuesday night when the series shifts back to Sunrise for Game 5. If they allow the Edmonton offense to get rolling like this again, this series might go on for quite a while.
