LSU cornerback Javien Toviano has been reinstated by the school and is back with the football program after he was charged with video voyeurism in July, LSU coach Brian Kelly said Thursday. Toviano is accused of using a hidden camera — without his partner’s consent — to record himself having sex.
“He was reinstated on Thursday,” Kelly said. “So, he’s back in football activities, and we’ll kind of get him going again, back in the mix. Obviously, he’ll be a competitive player for us — you know, he played for us last year — and get him going as he works through his legal matters.”
Police found three videos on the sophomore’s iPad that corroborated the victim’s account, according to an arrest report obtained by WAFB. The videos were allegedly recorded using a clock equipped with a camera, according to the Associated Press. Toviano turned himself into authorities on July 21, and the case remains under review by the East Baton Rouge District Attorney.
Toviano started three games for the Tigers as a freshman as LSU tried to find help for its shaky defense. He recorded a season-high 11 tackles in a win over Florida and closed the season with 33 total. The Arlington, Texas, native was considered a four-star prospect in the Class of 2023 and is expected to compete for playing time at cornerback as the Tigers seek a defensive reboot under first-year coordinator Blake Baker.
