College Football Playoff Rankings schedule: Complete list of dates, times announced for 2024 season

The College Football Playoff selection committee met this week to nail down multiple aspects of its 2024 selection process, including dates and times for midseason rankings releases and which members will have to recuse themselves from conversations involving teams with which they are associated.

“It is always great to get everyone together before the season starts to welcome our new members and review our procedures in detail,” CFP committee chair and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. “The work of the College Football Playoff selection committee has a solid foundation with its processes and protocols, and the committee members are looking forward to ranking the top 25 teams this season as we kick off the first year of the 12-team format.”

This will be the first season that the College Football Playoff fields a 12-team format. Since there are five spots allocated for the highest-ranked conference champions, the committee decided to remove the conference championship designation as a potential tiebreaker between two comparable teams. 

The first batch of CFP Rankings will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 5 — which is also Election Day — following Week 10 of the regular season. Another set of rankings will then be revealed every Tuesday in November before the final rankings are unveiled on Sunday, Dec. 8 to determine who will compete in the playoff.

The CFP recusal policy states that selection committee members with an immediate family member at a school involved in the discussion are limited to answering only factual information about the team. The same rule applies to members who have compensated by a school, provided professional services for a school or played for a school in consideration.
