Find something you love as much as Aaron Donald loves bullying opposing NFL quarterbacks. It’s something he’s become the best in the league at doing and, in the process, is not so arguably the best player in the entire league period, but he’s not simply all smiles because of the 26-17 win by the Los Angeles Rams over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. He’s also grinning because in helping the Rams go to 4-1 on the season, he also took down Russell Wilson in the third quarter and made franchise history while doing it.
The perennial All-Pro pass rusher now has 88.5 career sacks, the most ever by a Rams player, and you can bet the news comes with added sprinkles in knowing the achievement will forever be tied to Wilson and the Seahawks — his most bitter NFL rivals.
Currently, the Rams all-time list of sack leaders is as follows:
- Aaron Donald – 88.5
- Leonard Little – 87.5
- Kevin Greene – 72.5
- Kevin Carter – 62.5
- Robert Quinn – 62.5
Considering Donald is only 30 years old, and still very much in the prime of a career that will one day see him immortalized as a first-ballot Hall of Famer, you can bet the gap between Donald and the rest of the pack will be much more substantial by the time he hangs up his cleats for good. A former 13th-overall pick of the Rams in 2014, he’s been nothing short of a terror at his position, racking up a laundry list of honors that include six All-Pro awards, seven Pro Bowl nods and a place on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team — as well as being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year on three separate occasions (2017, 2018 and 2020).
He now has three sacks through the first five games of 2021, and is again on pace to tally a double-digit sack count in the regular season, which would be his fifth consecutive and sixth of his illustrious eight-year career. He’ll now take aim at pushing his number of sacks higher when he takes on Daniel Jones and the New York Giants in Week 6, versus an offensive line that’s anything but a brick wall.
