Storylines

Brazil: After their 0-0 draw with Colombia, the Brazilians will be keen to get back to winning ways having already beaten Venezuela this international break. The gap between them and Argentina remains significant so there is no fear of being caught just yet but a bad result against one of the continent’s stronger sides could see that gap reduced further.

Uruguay After a draw with Colombia and that heavy defeat to Argentina, the Uruguayans need a response in what is an ugly run with the Albiceleste to come again before the end of 2021. The good news is that whatever the result here, the remaining games are more straightforward with Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Peru, and Chile to finish qualification.

Prediction

The hosts to get back to winning ways after some initial resistance from their visitors. Tabarez’s Celeste side will be fine if they can keep damage to a minimum and a draw is certainly not beyond them. Pick: Brazil 2-1 Uruguay.
