Top Week 6 NFL predictions

One of the model’s strongest Week 6 NFL picks is that the Broncos (-3) cover the spread against the Raiders in well over 50 percent of simulations. The early talk of Derek Carr being an MVP candidate has quieted down quickly, as the Raiders’ signal-caller has seen his passer rating drop in three straight games. Over the Raiders’ last 14 possessions, Carr has zero TD passes, thrown two interceptions and been sacked four times.

That stretch came against the good but not great defenses of the Bears and Chargers. Now, Carr will face Denver’s elite defensive unit, and Empower Field has been a House of Horrors for the Raiders. They are 1-4 in their last five trips to Denver and the Broncos have allowed just two touchdowns at home in the 2021 season.

The model foresees Teddy Bridgewater having a much more efficient game than Carr, with the Broncos’ pass-catchers stepping up. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton is projected to lead all players in receiving yards, while tight end Noah Fant has a better chance at finding the end zone than the Raiders’ Darren Waller. Add in Denver’s defense containing the Raiders’ rushing attack and the model has Denver covering with points to spare.

Another one of its Week 6 NFL predictions: The Ravens (-3.5) cover against the Chargers well over 50 percent of the time. The Chargers have one of the most explosive offenses in the league, but their offense needs to score points to bail out their struggling defense, which allowed 42 points to the Browns in Week 5.

It was actually a historic performance and not one that the Chargers can count on week-after-week. They became the first team in NFL history to win despite allowing over 40 points, 500 yards and having no takeaways in a game. Los Angeles was particularly gashed on the ground, as it allowed over 230 rushing yards and 6.5 yards per carry, That’s music to the ears of the Ravens, who are averaging the fourth-most rushing yards per game in the league.

The Ravens are projected to rush for nearly 200 yards in the simulations at 6.0 yards per carry, a big reason why the model has Baltimore covering. The model also says you should back the Under (50.5) in that game.
