Fantasy Football Week 6 WR Preview: Hope is waning for Allen Robinson and Odell Beckham, but try to hold

You can’t start Allen Robinson or Odell Beckham, but don’t spite-drop them either

Allen Robinson and Odell Beckham have been two of the biggest disappointments in all of Fantasy Football. And if you look at the projections at the bottom of this article, you’ll see that I don’t necessarily have much hope that they’ll be better in Week 6.  I can even understand if you had to drop them because you’re way below .500 and needed to pick someone off the waiver wire. But I’d really like to hold a little longer and I’m definitely not spite-dropping.

If you’re looking for reasons for optimism, you probably won’t find them. For Robinson, the best case is that he has a rookie quarterback who should improve as the season goes on. And if he improves, hopefully the Bears will let him throw more. That could happen as soon as Week 6 against the Packers‘ prolific offense (and banged-up secondary).

For Beckham the argument is more simple. It’s his first three games back from a major injury and one of those games was good. It’s just been so long since we saw the Beckham we saw in New York, that I’m not sure he still exists.

The past gives a few more reasons for hope. In 2020, Marvin Jones was WR81 through five weeks of the season and WR6 from Week 6 forward.  Diontae Johnson was WR67 after five weeks and WR7 from Week 6 forward. T.Y. Hilton was WR59 through five weeks of the season. From Week 6 forward he was WR38, and he was a top-24 wide receiver down the stretch. Brandin Cooks went from WR36 Weeks 1-5 to WR10 in the second half.

These receivers did have some extenuating circumstances, but it’s a good reminder that we still aren’t even a third of the way through the season. There’s plenty of time for a turnaround, no matter how bad these veterans have looked.
