CBS Sports Network’s continued coverage of the 2024 college football season features six games for the Week 10 slate, including a trio of weeknight battles ahead of a Saturday triple-header. Conference USA takes most of the spotlight, with three games throughout the week.
Friday night brings a fresh look between Georgia State and UConn, an intriguing nonconference clash with potential postseason implications — for the Huskies, at least. To kick off Saturday’s slate, Buffalo is trying to keep its Mid-American Conference hopes alive against Akron.
During the midday slate, Conference USA is back when Middle Tennessee travels to UTEP, and the nightcap brings an interesting Mountain West Conference clash between Colorado State and Nevada.

Georgia State at UConn

UConn is for real this year. The Huskies are just one win away from securing bowl eligibility for the second time in three years under coach Jim L. Mora. The Huskies haven’t made two bowl games in a three-year span since 2008-10. They’ll have a good chance to secure their postseason fate against Georgia State, though it won’t be easy. This is the same Panthers squad that beat Vanderbilt, after all. It’s been rough sledding since then, however. Georgia State is on a four-game losing streak and still searching for its first win in Sun Belt Conference play. In that span, the Panthers are averaging fewer than 21 points per game.
Buffalo at Akron

The race for the Mid-American Conference Championship Game is going to come down to the wire. Buffalo’s right outside of the top pack with a 2-2 conference record thus far, but the Bulls are still within shouting distance. Obviously, their margin for error is thin, and they can’t avoid any slip-ups. They certainly can’t look past Akron, even if a 2-6 record suggests the Zips may not be the hardest opponent to face. Akron upset Eastern Michigan in Week 9, earning its first conference win while scoring a season-high (against FBS opponents, at least) 25 points.
Middle Tennessee at UTEP

Though neither Middle Tennessee nor UTEP are involved in the Conference USA race, a win here would put either team firmly in the middle of the standings — for now, at least. The Blue Raiders and the Miners haven’t had a ton of success this year. They’re a combined 2-7 in conference play. MTSU’s only win came against Kennesaw State, while UTEP upset FIU a few weeks ago to give young coach Scotty Walden the first FBS win of his career. Don’t expect a ton of points. UTEP ranks eighth in Conference USA in scoring offense with 17 points per game, while Middle Tennessee isn’t far behind in ninth with 16.9 points per game.
Colorado State at Nevada

Colorado State is, quietly, right in the thick of the Mountain West Conference race. While a lot of the focus has been on programs like No. 15 Boise State and UNLV, which earned its first AP ranking in program history earlier in the year, the Rams are off to a 3-0 start in league play and are one of just three teams, with the Broncos and San Diego State, that remain unblemished. Nevada is a polar opposite. It looked as if the Wolf Pack might be turning a corner with Oct. 12’s win against Oregon State, but they went on to lose two straight MWC games and, in Week 9, fell by 21 points to a Hawaii team that had yet to win a conference game.
