76ers vs. Pistons odds, line: 2021 NBA picks, Oct. 28 predictions from proven computer model

The Philadelphia 76ers will take on the Detroit Pistons at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center. Detroit is likely to play without its two best players, Jerami Grant (elbow) and Cade Cunningham (ankle). Meanwhile, the Sixers continue on without the services of Ben Simmons, and could be without top big man Joel Embiid (knee), who is questionable but did go through the team’s shootaround on Thursday.

Philadelphia is favored by 10.5 points in the latest 76ers vs. Pistons odds from Caesars Sportsbook, and the over-under is set at 212.5. Before entering any Pistons vs. Sixers picks, you’ll want to see the NBA predictions from the model at SportsLine.

What you need to know about the Pistons

On Monday, the Pistons lost to the Atlanta Hawks on the road by a decisive 122-104 margin. The top scorers for Detroit were small forward Saddiq Bey (21 points) and power forward Kelly Olynyk (21 points). The Pistons already had one of the league’s weaker rosters coming into the season, but the injuries to Grant and Cunningham haven’t helped.

Grant actually has what’s being described as an infection in his elbow, and is questionable for the game. Head coach Dwane Casey had some optimism that Cunningham could rejoin the team after its season-opening road trip, but it doesn’t seem as though he’s progressed enough during his G-League rehab stint to get the call back to the NBA roster. In the meantime, Bey has been the most productive scorer for Detroit, and he averages 18 points per game in the early going, but his 3-point shooting has been a poor 23 percent on the 17 attempts he’s had through three games.

What you need to know about the 76ers

Philadelphia’s most recent game against the New York Knicks on Tuesday wasn’t particularly close as the Sixers fell, 112-99. Tobias Harris had 23 points and nine assists along with nine rebounds, but Embiid was held to just 14 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes on the floor.

Detroit took one win and covered twice as an underdogs against Philadelphia last season, and with Embiid still getting up to speed and Simmons not playing, Philly shouldn’t take Detroit lightly. One thing that the 76ers have going for them against Detroit coming into the game is they have the fourth-highest shooting percentage (47.4) in the league through four games, while Detroit has the second-lowest (40.9).
