The 2021-22 NBA season is off to a great start, and on Thursday there are six games on the schedule, highlighted by a high-profile matchup between the Bulls and Knicks at the United Center. The Knicks are coming off a playoff season and are showing promise. The Bulls, meanwhile, have completely rebuilt their roster and there’s once again hope for two of the league’s most popular franchises. But with the total at 215 at Caesars Sportsbook, is that a game that you should be focusing on as you set your NBA DFS lineups for Thursday?
Warriors vs. Grizzlies has the highest total of the night at 229 and will be a popular source of NBA DFS stacks. But targeting games with high totals is just one NBA DFS strategy, and there are a lot of big stars in the NBA DFS player pool like Trae Young, Joel Embiid and Bradley Beal to consider. Top NBA DFS picks for Thursday, October 28
One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Thursday is Spurs guard Dejounte Murray at $8,800 on DraftKings and $8,300 on FanDuel. It’s a big year for Murray as the Spurs turn over a new leaf after DeMar DeRozan left during the offseason. And while he’s not off to a great shooting start (37.0 percent from the floor), he’s contributing in a lot of ways and is coming off his best game of the season.
Murray had 21 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds for a triple-double in a loss to the Lakers on Tuesday night. He’s now averaging 15.0 points, 9.0 assists and 9.0 rebounds per game and he’s also had nine steals in four games. He’s a multi-category contributor who is getting up over 18 shots per game and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks out of his shooting slump.
Another key in McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Mavericks guard Luka Doncic ($11,000 on DraftKings, $10,700 on FanDuel). Doncic is coming off a season where he shot a career-best 47.9 percent from the floor and 35.0 percent from the 3-point line, so the fact that he’s shooting just 40.9 percent from the floor and 21.7 percent from the 3-point line leaves open a lot of room for positive regression.
Despite the poor shooting, Doncic is still averaging 23.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. Now he’ll get to take on a Spurs squad that has given up 246 points in their last two games and that Westbrook put up a triple-double against on Tuesday.
