Who’s Playing

No. 12 Kentucky @ Mississippi State

Current Records: Kentucky 6-1; Mississippi State 4-3

What to Know

The Kentucky Wildcats and the Mississippi State Bulldogs are even-steven against one another since October of 2015 (3-3), but not for long. UK will take on MSU at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field after a week off. MSU should still be feeling good after a victory, while the Wildcats will be looking to right the ship.

UK received a tough blow two weeks ago as they fell 30-13 to the Georgia Bulldogs. No one had a standout game offensively for UK, but they got scores from TE Justin Rigg and WR Wan’Dale Robinson.

Meanwhile, MSU ran circles around the Vanderbilt Commodores last week, and the extra yardage (522 yards vs. 145 yards) paid off. MSU steamrolled past Vanderbilt 45-6 on the road. With MSU ahead 24-3 at the half, the game was all but over already. Their success was spearheaded by the efforts of QB Will Rogers, who passed for four TDs and 384 yards on 57 attempts, and WR Makai Polk, who snatched two receiving TDs.

This next matchup is expected to be close, with UK going off at just a 1.5-point favorite. They might be worth taking a chance on against the spread as they are currently on a four-game streak of ATS wins.

The Wildcats are now 6-1 while MSU sits at 4-3. Two defensive stats to keep an eye on: UK is stumbling into the contest with the 197th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 11 on the season. MSU has experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 226th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 14 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
