The New York Jets won’t have quarterback Zach Wilson on Sunday for their matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, and now it appears they won’t have wide receiver Corey Davis either. Davis popped up on the injury report on Thursday afternoon with a hip injury, and was a limited participant. On Friday morning, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that it’s “not looking good.”

“We’re still holding on for hope, but it’s trending in that direction,” said Saleh.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Davis suffered a hip flexor issue. Saleh says this could give Denzel Mims, Elijah Moore and Keelan Cole an opportunity to step up in the receiving game and help new quarterback Mike White. Saleh also reiterated that they have not ruled out Davis just yet.

“We’ll see, it’s day-to-day,” said Saleh. “We’re still holding on for this Sunday like I said, but we’ll see as it goes.”

Davis, who signed a three-year deal worth $37.5 million this offseason, has been the No. 1 option in the passing game this season. He leads the Jets in targets (42), receptions (24), yards (349) and touchdowns (4). The big-bodied Mims will likely get more reps on the outside if Davis can’t go.

The former No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan had a career year with the Tennessee Titans in 2020, as he caught 65 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns. The campaign brought him some attention on the open market this offseason, and he was able to cash in with the Jets. This injury will be something to monitor moving forward, as Saleh didn’t directly answer if this is an issue that could cause Davis to miss more than one game.
