Why Toledo can cover

Toledo is 20-5 straight-up all-time at home against the Eagles, and the host team is 7-3 against the spread in the last 10 meetings. The Rockets set the tone with their defense, which yields 18.3 points per game (15th in FBS), and it has 14 takeaways while the offense has turned it over just four times. The linebacking corps is loaded with playmakers, led by Jonathan Jones, who has 54 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He is joined by Terrance Taylor (three sacks), Jamal Hines (two sacks) and Dyontae Johnson (one interception).

The Rockets also make big plays in the secondary, led by safety Maxen Hook (team-high 60 tackles) and cornerback Samuel Womack (fumble recovery, interception). Eastern Michigan has turned the ball over 10 times in the eight games. The Toledo offense is powered by running back Bryant Koback, who has 862 total yards and seven touchdowns. EMU allows 24.9 per game (64th in FBS), and while the Rockets score just 28.5 (72nd), they are 3-0 against the spread when scoring more than 24.9. The favorite is 14-5 ATS in the last 19 meetings between the teams.

Why Eastern Michigan can cover

EMU is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games on Tuesday, and its strength is the passing offense led by quarterback Ben Bryant. The grad transfer from Cincinnati has passed for 1,836 yards and 10 touchdowns and is completing 69 percent of his throws. The Eagles also have a strong running back duo with Jawon Hamilton (347 yards, 5.2 per carry) and Darius Boone (306, six touchdowns). The Toledo defense is weakest against the run (61st in FBS), so the pair should see a lot of action Tuesday. Eastern Michigan is 3-1 ATS in its past four games as a road underdog.

The Eagles have two receivers with more than 500 yards, with Hassan Beydoun (52 catches for 533) and Dylan Drummond (501, four TDs) giving Bryant reliable options. EMU has forced at least one turnover in seven of its eight games and has 10 on the season. It is 6-4 ATS in its past 10 MAC games, and Turan Rush (3.5 sacks) and Jose Ramirez (three) should get plenty of opportunities at sacking the quarterback. The Rockets have given up 29 sacks, sixth-most in the nation. Linebackers Tariq Speights and Terry Myrick have combined for 88 tackles and two sacks.
