Thursday Night Football odds, spread, line: Colts vs. Jets picks, NFL predictions by expert on 19-8 roll

The New York Jets will look to build on their Week 8 victory when they take on the Indianapolis Colts in a key AFC matchup on Thursday Night Football. After getting blown out a week earlier, the Jets (2-5) responded in a big way with a 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. The Colts (3-5), meanwhile, dropped a key 34-31 overtime decision to the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans and find themselves three games out of first in their division. Indianapolis has won two of the past three meetings with New York and leads the all-time regular-season series 42-29.

Kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Indianapolis is a 10.5-point favorite in the latest Colts vs. Jets odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is 46.5. Why the Colts can cover

Despite the loss to the Titans, the Colts have been on a roll, winning two of three. Indianapolis, however, will be without wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who is out with a concussion. Quarterback Carson Wentz has shown some signs he is ready to once again be a force, and leads the team in passing. He has completed 168-of-270 passes (62.2 percent) for 1,926 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has been intercepted three times for a 96.3 rating.

Another weapon bolstering the Colts’ offense is running back Jonathan Taylor. In eight games played, Taylor has carried 121 times for 649 yards (5.4 average) and six touchdowns. He has five plays of 20 yards or more and has converted 44 first downs. He has also been a threat in the passing game, with 21 receptions for 265 yards (12.6 average) and one TD.

Why the Jets can cover

Despite that, Indianapolis is not a lock to cover the Jets vs. Colts spread. That’s because New York quarterback Mike White is coming off a solid debut against Cincinnati. White completed 37-of-45 passes (82.5 percent) for 405 yards and three touchdowns against two interceptions last week. White and Cam Newton (2011) are the only quarterbacks with 400 or more passing yards in their first career NFL start. He also became the first Jets quarterback to throw 400 or more yards since Vinny Testaverde in 2000.

Another rookie making an impact for New York is running back Michael Carter. He had a season-high 172 yards from scrimmage, including 95 receiving yards on nine catches and a rushing TD last week. It was the most scrimmage yards by a rookie running back in a single game this season and fifth-most by a Jets rookie. Carter is looking for his third game in a row with 100 or more yards from scrimmage. He has a rushing touchdown in three of his past four games.
