What you need to know about the Suns
Phoenix has won its last two games, most recently a 112-100 win against New Orleans on Tuesday. The Suns battled back after the Pelicans took a 14-point lead in the first quarter. As part of Paul’s record-setting performance, he finished with a double-double that included 18 assists and 14 points in addition to seven rebounds. The Suns could be without the services of big man Deandre Ayton on Thursday, who missed the last game with a leg injury. Frank Kaminsky filled in for him nicely on Tuesday, and finished with 17 points.
Paul may be in for another big workload against the Rockets, as the status of Cameron Payne is also up in the air. The backup point guard has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, and has only played in the first two games of this season. Devin Booker once again leads the team’s offense, and has averaged 21.8 points per game to start the season, although he is coming off of a relatively mediocre outing against New Orleans in which he shot just 35 percent from the field and finished with 18 points.
What you need to know about the Rockets
The Rockets very nearly got their second win of the season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, but came up just short, 119-117. Christian Wood led the upset bid for Houston, and finished with a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds.
Houston rookie Jalen Green has had a couple of bright moments already in his young career, including Tuesday night, when he made 5-of-10 3-point shots and finished with 24 points. That mark was his second-highest point total of the season, after his October 24 showing in which he put up 30 points in 35 minutes. Green has been the second-best scorer on the team in 2021 behind Wood, but Houston has also had solid production from veteran Eric Gordon, who is has shot 49 percent from the field and averages 14 points per game.
