College football expert picks, predictions, best bets for Week 2, 2021: Texas covers at Arkansas

The Week 2 college football schedule gets into full swing on Saturday with most of the intriguing action coming outside conference play. No. 3 Ohio State vs. No. 12 Oregon is the headliner, and the Buckeyes are 14.5-point favorites in the Week 2 college football odds, per Caesars Sportsbook, in that noon ET matchup in Columbus. The battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy, meanwhile, is unfolding in Ames as No. 10 Iowa travels to No. 9 Iowa State (-4.5) at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Those are a couple of the Week 2 college football spreads that will draw a lot of action. But beating the book on Saturday is about finding the best values in all types of matchups. Top Week 2 college football expert predictions

One of Sallee’s top college football picks for Week 2: He’s backing Texas (-7) to go on the road and beat Arkansas in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in Fayetteville that pits old Southwest Conference rivals.

Everything went right in Steve Sarkisian’s Texas debut last week as the Longhorns took care of business 38-18 against a Louisiana squad that came into the matchup ranked.

Arkansas took some time to get going against Rice before pulling away late. The Razorbacks’ passing attacked looked shaky in their first game without Feleipe Franks. K.J. Jefferson was just 12 of 21 passing for 128 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Sallee expects Fayetteville to be absolutely rocking, but also says that won’t be enough for Arkansas to keep this one within the spread against a superior Texas squad.

“That excitement will subside once toe meets leather,” Sallee told SportsLine. “Texas’ defense looked strong against a very potent and experienced Louisiana offense, and the Razorbacks’ passing attack left a lot to be desired against Rice. Emotion won’t be enough to keep this one close.”
