The AP voters have spoken, and a one-loss Oklahoma team is not worthy of being in the top 10. The Sooners dropped eight spots to No. 12 this week following a 27-14 loss to Baylor, which finds itself one spot ahead of the Sooners at No. 11. That seven-spot climb is the biggest improvement of any team in the poll this week.
The other significant change involves the top two. After ranking Cincinnati in the No. 2 spot behind Georgia for the last month, Alabama jumped ahead of the Bearcats this week. Apparently the Tide’s win over New Mexico State was more impressive than Cincinnati’s over South Florida Friday night.
As for the rest of the top 10, everybody ranked between Nos. 5 and 10 last week each moved up a spot, including Ohio State. The Buckeyes enter the top five after what might’ve been their most impressive performance of the season in a 59-31 win over Purdue.
The only new team in the top 10 this week is Ole Miss, which moved up two spots to No. 10 after beating Texas A&M. The Aggies, meanwhile, fell five spots to No. 16.
