Texas’ star running back Bijan Robinson will miss the remainder of the 2021 season after sustaining a dislocated elbow against Kansas, said coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday. Robinson suffered the injury late in the third quarter of the Longhorns’ 57-56 overtime loss to the Jayhawks, which capped off the program’s first five-game losing streak since 1956.

Robinson took a carry inside the 10-yard line and was immediately met by several Kansas defenders behind the line of scrimmage. While trying to stiff arm one defender, another Jayhawks player fell on top of him and Robinson’s elbow appeared to give way. He remained on the ground for an extended period before walking off the field while holding his arm.

The sophomore came into Saturday as the nation’s No. 8 rusher and finishes with 1,127 yards rushing, 295 yards receiving and 15 total touchdowns. Robinson was once viewed as a leading Heisman Trophy candidate after rushing for 652 yards and 7 touchdowns in his first five games, but struggled during the team’s five-game losing streak. He rushed for 70 yards on 14 carries against Kansas.

With Robinson sidelined, the Longhorns will turn to a rotation that includes junior Roschon Johnson, freshman Jonathan Brooks and Alabama transfer Keilan Robinson, who missed the matchup with KU while in the Covid protocol. Johnson and Brooks combined for 70 yards on 11 carries against the Jayhawks.

Texas travels to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
