Through 1 Quarter

The Kentucky Wildcats were expected to take an ‘L’ in this one, but so far it isn’t playing out to script. They have emerged as the frontrunner after one quarter and are ahead of the Louisville Cardinals 14-7. The Wildcats have been riding high on the performance of QB Will Levis, who has accumulated 69 passing yards in addition to rushing for two TDs and 50 yards.

UK and U of L came into this game with previous-game wins. It’s looking like UK will be able to keep the momentum, but U of L still has three quarters to right the ship.

What to Know

The Louisville Cardinals will take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at home. These two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

A well-balanced attack led the Cardinals over the Duke Blue Devils every single quarter on their way to victory last week. U of L took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 62-22 victory over Duke. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-9. QB Malik Cunningham had a dynamite game for U of L; he passed for five TDs and 302 yards on 25 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 224 yards. One of the most memorable plays of the matchup was Cunningham’s 72-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, UK ran circles around the New Mexico State Aggies last week, and the extra yardage (708 yards vs. 278 yards) paid off. UK steamrolled past New Mexico State 56-16 at home. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Wildcats had established a 49-16 advantage. It was another big night for their QB Will Levis, who passed for four TDs and 419 yards on 31 attempts. Levis’ 62-yard touchdown toss to WR Josh Ali in the third quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the day.

This next contest is expected to be close, with the Cardinals going off at just a 3-point favorite. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (3-1), so they might be worth a quick bet.

The wins brought U of L up to 6-5 and the Wildcats to 8-3. A pair of defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: U of L is stumbling into the game with the 187th most passing yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 253.8 on average. UK has experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 182nd worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 18 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
