Two teams with 2-8 records will meet in Week 12 when the New York Jets visit the Houston Texans. Houston is coming off a spirited road victory over the Titans, giving the Texans their first win since Week 1. Meanwhile, New York turning to Joe Flacco at quarterback didn’t change the team’s fortunes, as the Jets fell to the Miami Dolphins. New York will now turn back to No. 2 pick Zach Wilson, who will make his first start since Week 7. In select markets, you can stream the game on Paramount+.
Kickoff for Jets vs. Texans is set for 1 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston. Caesars Sportsbook lists Houston as a 2.5-point favorite in the latest Texans vs. Jets odds. Week 12 NFL picks for Jets vs. Texans
Before you tune in to Sunday’s Texans vs. Jets game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,300 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six-plus years ago. The model enters Week 12 of the 2021 season on an incredible 130-91 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.
The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.
For Jets vs. Texans, the model is backing Houston to cover the spread. While these teams have matching records, the Texans have a decided advantage at the most important position on the field. Tyrod Taylor brings competency at quarterback, as Houston is 2-2 in four starts this season. He’s accounted for twice as many total touchdowns (six) as turnovers (three) and rushed for two scores last week.
On the other hand, Wilson has struggled. The rookie ranks last in passer rating, second-to-last in completion percentage and has more than twice as many turnovers (nine) as touchdowns (four). To illustrate just how turnover-prone Wilson has been, he ranks sixth in the NFL in interceptions despite ranking 32nd in pass attempts. To make matters worse for New York, its best offensive player, running back Michael Carter (ankle), will be sidelined for several weeks.
An offense devoid of playmakers combined with a defense that ranks 32nd in points allowed isn’t the recipe for Wilson to have a triumphant return. After Houston had five takeaways last week, the model has the Texans forcing multiple turnovers again. The Texans are projected to win by four points and cover the 2.5-point spread in over 60 percent of simulations.
