Some of the country’s best dirt milers will square off Saturday when the starting gate opens in the 2021 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct Racetrack. Named after one of the nation’s best racehorses of the last 40 years, the $750,000 Cigar Mile is the only race remaining on the 2021 horse racing calendar with a purse of more than $500,000.
The Todd Pletcher-trained Americanrevolution is the 5-2 morning-line favorite in the 2021 Cigar Mile odds. He has four wins and one third in six career starts. Independence Hall and Ginobili are the second favorites in the eight-horse 2021 Cigar Mile field. Post time for the one-turn race is 4:13 p.m. ET. With a well accomplished Cigar Mile field set to enter the starting gate on Saturday, you’ll want to hear what racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir has to say before making any Cigar Mile picks.
A Saratoga Springs-based racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker, Weir is a two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas. He has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014.
This year, he has been on fire. He hit the exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby and Peter Pan Stakes, the trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes. Those are just some of his scores in 2021.
Now, he has handicapped the Cigar Mile 2021 field, made his picks and locked in his bets. You can only see them at SportsLine.
Top 2021 Cigar Mile predictions
One surprise: Weir is mostly fading Ginobili, even though he is one of the top favorites at 7-2. Trained by West Coast-based conditioner Richard Baltas, Ginobili has three wins, two seconds and one third in 14 career starts. He is coming off a second-place finish behind runaway winner Life Is Good in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
But Ginobili has struggled in his only two career starts outside of California, finishing seventh of 12 and fifth of 10 in two races at Oaklawn Park. “I suspect Ginobili will get bet down from this morning line, and I’m willing to stand against him on top in these new surroundings,” Weir told SportsLine.
How to make 2021 Cigar Mile picks
Weir’s top pick is an “in-form horse.” He also is high on a double-digit long shot whose trainer just made “an aggressive move.” Weir is including these horses in his 2021 Cigar Mile bets, and so should you. He’s sharing which horses to back only at SportsLine.
So what horse wins the 2021 Cigar Mile? What long shot is a must-back? And how has Weir constructed his wagers? Check out the latest Cigar Mile odds 2021 below, then visit SportsLine to see Weir’s picks for the Cigar Mile, and find out.
