What to Know
After a three-game homestand, the #1 Purdue Boilermakers will be on the road. The Boilermakers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will face off in a Big Ten battle at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at Jersey Mike’s Arena. Purdue hasn’t won a contest against RU since Jan. 15 of 2019, but they’ll be looking to end the drought.
Purdue beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 77-70 this past Friday. Guard Jaden Ivey (19 points) was the top scorer for Purdue.
Meanwhile, there’s no need to mince words: RU lost to the Illinois Fighting Illini this past Friday, and they lost bad. The score wound up at 86-51. One thing holding the Scarlet Knights back was the mediocre play of guard Paul Mulcahy, who did not have his best game: he finished with only four points on 2-for-11 shooting in his 26 minutes on the court.
The Boilermakers are now a perfect 8-0 while RU sits at 4-4. A couple offensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Purdue comes into the game boasting the third highest field goal percentage in college basketball at 53.10%. On the other end of the spectrum, RU has only been able to knock down 39.40% percent of their shots, which is the 21st lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. We’ll see if Purdue’s 13.70% advantage translates to a win.
