After finally winning a playoff game in the 2020-21 postseason, the New York Knicks added Evan Fournier to their ranks for the 2021-22 season in order to help bolster their return to NBA relevance. But of late, Fournier has not been making much of an impact.
He is blaming the poor play on a bad steak he ate. After a dud of a performance where he finished with seven points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3 pt, 2-2 FT) in the Knicks’ Wednesday night loss to the Indiana Pacers, Fournier told reporters that he has been playing with food poisoning after a recent piece of steak disagreed with him.
Fournier’s Wednesday night performance had been preceded by a poor game against the San Antonio Spurs, in which he had seven points on 3-8 shooting and went just 1-6 from the three-point line.
“I was doing better, to be honest, before those two games. I’m not going to tell you the name of the restaurant, but I had a terrible steak in San Antonio,” Fournier said. “I’ve had like food poisoning stuff, just can’t move. I have to get right tomorrow, and I have a day off tomorrow to feel better.”
Since being acquired by the Knicks in a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics in August, Fournier had felt he was starting to play better before the poor piece of steak — which he actually found to be very good before it wreaked havoc on his intestines.
Interestingly, stomach trouble has been a recurring issue for members of the Knicks as of late
RJ Barrett revealed following Tuesday night’s game that he had been suffering from a stomach bug for two weeks, and rookie Jericho Sims has also dealt with illness.
After a hot start to the season, the Knicks have lost four out of their last five games to drop to 12-13 and fourth in the Atlantic Division. Their next game will be Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.
