Who’s Playing
San Francisco @ Cincinnati
Current Records: San Francisco 6-6; Cincinnati 7-5
What to Know
The Cincinnati Bengals will stay at home another week and welcome the San Francisco 49ers at 4:25 p.m. ET Dec. 12 at Paul Brown Stadium. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’
The game between the Bengals and the Los Angeles Chargers this past Sunday was not a total blowout, but with Cincinnati falling 41-22 at home, it was darn close to turning into one. Cincinnati’s loss came about despite a quality game from WR Tee Higgins, who caught nine passes for one TD and 138 yards.
The 49ers came within a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday, but they wound up with a 30-23 loss. A silver lining for San Francisco was the play of TE George Kittle, who caught nine passes for two TDs and 181 yards. Kittle hadn’t helped his team much against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him.
San Francisco’s defense was a presence as well, as it got past Seattle’s offensive line to sack QB Russell Wilson four times for a total loss of 50 yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.
This next matchup is expected to be close, with Cincinnati going off at just a 1-point favorite. Their home turf has been no bettor’s paradise, though, as they’ve failed to beat the spread in four of their six home games.
The losses put the Bengals at 7-5 and the 49ers at 6-6. A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Cincinnati enters the contest with only 92.5 rushing yards allowed per game on average, good for fourth best in the league. Less enviably, San Francisco is fourth worst in the NFL in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 16 on the season.
