Who’s Playing

Houston @ Charlotte

Current Records: Houston 10-23; Charlotte 17-17

What to Know

The Charlotte Hornets will be returning home after a six-game road trip. After a few days’ rest for both teams, they and the Houston Rockets will meet up at 7 p.m. ET Dec. 27 at Spectrum Center. If the matchup is anything like Houston’s 146-143 win from their previous meeting in November, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.

The Hornets were able to grind out a solid victory over the Denver Nuggets this past Thursday, winning 115-107. The win came about thanks to a strong surge after the third quarter to overcome a 94-77 deficit. Charlotte’s success was spearheaded by the efforts of shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr., who shot 5-for-11 from downtown and finished with 23 points, and power forward P.J. Washington, who had 13 points and five assists along with nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, the contest between the Rockets and the Indiana Pacers this past Thursday was not a total blowout, but with Houston falling 118-106 on the road, it was darn close to turning into one. The losing side was boosted by power forward Christian Wood, who had 22 points in addition to eight boards.

Charlotte is the favorite in this one, with an expected 6-point margin of victory. They are currently two-for-two against the spread in their most recent games, a trend bettors might want to take into account.

Charlotte’s win lifted them to 17-17 while Houston’s defeat dropped them down to 10-23. Allowing an average of 116.82 points per game, Charlotte hasn’t exactly asserted themselves on the defensive end. We’ll see if they can patch up the holes in their defense before their upcoming game.
