Los Angeles Rams running back Darrell Henderson has missed time this year due to injuries and COVID-19, and a knee injury will cause him to miss the rest of the regular season. On Monday, head coach Sean McVay announced that Henderson is headed to injured reserve with an MCL injury. He’s expected to miss three to five weeks.
Henderson rushed just one time for 17 yards in the 30-23 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday before he suffered the injury. After an MRI, it was revealed he would have to miss multiple weeks. In 12 games this season, Henderson has rushed for a career-high 688 yards and five touchdowns.
Sony Michel has taken over as the lead back in December, and in the past four games he has rushed for 423 yards and two touchdowns. He won’t be alone in the backfield, however, as the Rams are expected to return Cam Akers soon. In fact, McVay said there’s a possibility we will see him this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry.
This marks an incredible comeback for the second-year player who tore his Achilles in July. Akers has already been activated off of injured reserve, and is apparently healthy enough to return for the Rams’ postseason run. In his rookie season, Akers rushed for 625 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games played. He picked it up in the playoffs as well, as Akers rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns in two postseason games.
