After three games on the road, the IUPUI Jaguars are heading back home. IUPUI and the Wright State Raiders will face off in a Horizon League battle at 7 p.m. ET Thursday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Jaguars have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with Wright State and are hoping to record their first win since Feb. 23 of 2018.
A victory for IUPUI just wasn’t in the stars on Tuesday as the team never even grasped a temporary lead. They were completely outmatched by the Ohio State Buckeyes on the road and fell 83-37. Guard Bakari LaStrap (12 points) was the top scorer for IUPUI.
Meanwhile, Wright State was close but no cigar on Saturday as they fell 90-87 to the Youngstown State Penguins.
The Jaguars are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the squad has let down bettors in their past three games.
The losses put IUPUI at 1-15 and the Raiders at 9-8. A couple stats to keep an eye on: IUPUI is 358th worst in college basketball in points per game, with only 51.3 on average. Wright State has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 37th most points allowed per game in college basketball, having given up 75.1 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
