What to Know
The California Golden Bears are 1-9 against the #3 Arizona Wildcats since January of 2016, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Sunday. California and the Wildcats will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 3 p.m. ET at Haas Pavilion. Arizona will be strutting in after a win while the Golden Bears will be stumbling in from a loss.
California came up short against the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, falling 65-57. Forward Andre Kelly put forth a good effort for the losing side as he posted a double-double on 14 boards and 12 points.
Meanwhile, the Stanford Cardinal typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday Arizona proved too difficult a challenge. Arizona took their matchup against the Cardinal by a conclusive 85-57 score. The margin was wide but not a surprise since the spread was 11.5 points in the Wildcats’ favor. They got double-digit scores from five players: center Oumar Ballo (21), guard Bennedict Mathurin (13), guard Pelle Larsson (13), guard Justin Kier (11), and guard Dalen Terry (10). Larsson hadn’t helped his team much against the Utah Utes on Saturday, so this was a nice turnaround for him.
The Golden Bears are now 9-9 while Arizona sits at 15-1. Two offensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: California is stumbling into the contest with the 29th fewest points per game in college basketball, having accrued only 64.6 on average. Arizona’s offense has more to brag about, as they they rank second in college basketball when it comes to points per game, with 88.3 on average.
