Team USA’s hockey teams were approaching a historic feat at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The women’s team is playing in Wednesday’s gold-medal game while the men’s team owned a perfect 3-0 record before it fell to Slovakia in a shootout 3-2 in the quarterfinals to end its charge for the podium.
Both the men’s and women’s teams earned silver in 2010 and 2002, but they were aiming for gold this time around. The defending-champion women’s squad will vie for its gold medal against Canada, the team it’s played in the final in five of the last six Olympics, on Wednesday. Team USA men’s team failed to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive Olympics.
