What to Know
After two games on the road, the #24 Connecticut Huskies are heading back home. The Huskies and the Seton Hall Pirates will face off in a Big East battle at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. UConn should still be riding high after a win, while Seton Hall will be looking to right the ship.
UConn came out on top in a nail-biter against the St. John’s Red Storm on Sunday, sneaking past 63-60. UConn’s success was spearheaded by the efforts of forward Isaiah Whaley, who had 11 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks, and guard Tyrese Martin, who had 17 points in addition to eight boards. Whaley had some trouble finding his footing against the Xavier Musketeers this past Friday, so this was a step in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Seton Hall was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 73-67 to the Villanova Wildcats. One thing holding the Pirates back was the mediocre play of guard Jared Rhoden, who did not have his best game: he finished with only eight points on 4-for-12 shooting in his 38 minutes on the court.
The Huskies are now 17-7 while Seton Hall sits at 15-8. A couple stats to keep an eye on: UConn enters the game with 6.8 blocked shots per game on average, good for second best in college basketball. Seton Hall is not quite as good, but they are no chumps, either: they rank 14th in college basketball when it comes to blocked shots per game, with 5.4 on average. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.
