Regular Season Records: Florida 20-13; Xavier 19-13
What to Know
The Florida Gators and the Xavier Musketeers are set to clash at 1 p.m. ET March 20 at Cintas Center in the second round of the NIT. Florida will be hoping to build upon the 70-65 win they picked up against the Musketeers when they previously played in November of 2019.
The Gators earned some postseason bragging rights after a successful outing on Wednesday. They snuck past the Iona Gaels with a 79-74 victory. Florida relied on the efforts of forward Colin Castleton, who posted a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, and guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr., who had 18 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland State Vikings typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Xavier proved too difficult a challenge. Xavier narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Cleveland State 72-68. The overall outcome was to be expected, but the Vikings made it more of a matchup than the oddsmakers had predicted. The Musketeers’ success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but forward Zach Freemantle led the charge as he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds in addition to four blocks.
With both teams having displayed their playoff mettle, spectators can expect a high-quality contest. Check back with CBS Sports for more details during and after the game.
