2022 Masters odds: Surprising PGA picks, weekend predictions from proven model that nailed seven majors

2022 Masters odds: Surprising PGA picks, weekend predictions from proven model that nailed seven majors

The 2022 Masters heads for the weekend with a clear betting favorite. American Scottie Scheffler fired a 67 in Round 2 on Friday to build a five-stroke lead at 8 under. The latest 2022 Masters odds from Caesars Sportsbook list him at 1-1 to win the Masters, but with 36 holes still to play, plenty of drama can still unfold at Augusta National Golf Club before the green jacket is handed out.

Shane Lowry, Charl Schwartzel, Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im comprise the group at 3-under par. Matsuyama, the defending champion, joins Dustin Johnson (-2) and and Cameron Smith (-2) next on the Masters odds board at 12-1. Tiger Woods is T19 at 1 over after shooting a 74 on Friday. He’s a now listed at 70-1, an even bigger long shot than he entered the Masters 2022. With so many experienced players atop the leaderboard, you’ll want to check out the PGA Tour predictions from the proven computer model at SportsLine before locking in your 2022 Masters picks.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up over $8,000 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

Now that the cut has been made at the 2022 Masters, SportsLine simulated the final two rounds 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Model’s top 2022 Masters predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Masters 2022: Lowry, who is tied for the second-lowest odds heading into the weekend at 12-1, stumbles and falls well outside of the top five. Lowry surged into contention with a second-round 68 after shooting a first-round 73. The 35-year old won the 2019 Open Championship to break through for his first major win.

He’s historically struggled at Augusta, however. This is the fourth time in seven tries that he’s made the cut at all. He’s never finished inside the top 20 at the Masters either. McClure’s model has identified several other golfers with better value in the Masters odds, making Lowry somebody to avoid this weekend.

Another surprise: Will Zalatoris, a 35-1 long shot, makes a surprising run into contention. He has a better chance to win than his odds imply, making him a great Masters weekend sleeper pick. The 25-year old American has a lot of ground to cover as he enters the weekend 1-under par and tied for 10th.

But a stumble by Scheffler would open up the field significantly for some golfers with longer odds. Zalatoris already has three top-10s in major play in his young career, including a second-place finish at the 2021 Masters. He’s been one of the PGA Tour’s longest players off the tee this season, averaging 310.4 yards per drive. That can help him pick up strokes quickly, so confidently back him in your 2022 Masters bets for the weekend.

How to make 2022 Masters picks

The model is targeting two golfers with odds of 50-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. It also has a surprising prediction for where Tiger Woods finishes. You can only see the model’s picks here.

So who will win the 2022 Masters Tournament? And which long shots stun the golfing world? Check out the odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected 2022 Masters leaderboard, all from the model that’s nailed six golf majors and is up over $8,000 since the restart in June of 2020.
